We like to give back to the community when we can, and over the years as a business we’ve put aside a portion of our profits for this purpose.
Bouwaqa Village on the Island of Vatulele in Fiji is a very small village that doesn’t have electricity due to their remote location, and doesn’t have a supply of fresh water underground. Our project involves providing solar power and fresh water to their small school and health care centre which are both small buildings with only a couple of rooms.
We have been funding this job for a couple of years now, and have recently finished building two grid boards which will be shipped to the island for installation.
According to the village headman, it has been far too long and years of hardship since there is no electricity. It’s difficult for the kids to study or do homework in the evening, and unlike the other villages in Vatulele Island, Bouwaqa doesn’t have fresh water underground. When they tried to dig it was just salt water, therefore, their source of water is very scarce. They are thankful to the company and especially the family for their willingness to help, they are excited and looking forward to a brighter future.
